How to Choose a Refrigerator Water Filter in 2026 (LG, Samsung, GE & More)
A clean refrigerator water filter means better-tasting water and ice—and replacing it on time protects your fridge. Here’s how to choose the right one without overpaying for the brand-name version.
Step 1: Find your filter model
The easiest way is to check your current filter or your fridge’s manual. Most filters are printed with a model code such as LT1000P (LG), DA29-00020B (Samsung), XWF / MWF (GE), or EDR1RXD1 / Filter 1 (Whirlpool). Match that code and you’re set.
Step 2: Brand-name vs. compatible filters
Compatible filters do the same job—reducing chlorine taste, odor, and common contaminants—for a fraction of the price of OEM filters. Our refrigerator water filters are Waterdrop compatible replacements that fit LG, Samsung, GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore, and Bosch fridges, starting at $49.99.
Step 3: Replace every 6 months
Most manufacturers recommend changing your filter every 6 months (or about 200 gallons). If your water flow slows or the taste changes, replace it sooner. Many people buy two at a time so they always have a spare.
